Too Many Ghosts
American in Love was released this year on Valentine's Day. It is available now at iTunes, CDBaby & Amoeba Record Stores in Los Angeles and San Francisco. You can listen to a bunch of the songs and watch some accompanying videos on the website, including the "Yesterday Some Roses" video (directed by Trish Hadley)!
It was originally intended to be a double album, but double albums are tricky. Songs get lost in the shuffle. Use Your Illusions I & II might have been better as one disc. Also, double albums are expensive to put out and we're in an economic crisis + downturn + depression. After checking my bank account -- and with the full knowledge that I am nowhere near as awesome as Guns N' Roses -- I decided to make it one album.
The second disc was going to be 11 songs recorded over two days in June 2007. I gave CDRs of that album to some friends and family and they really liked it. Some liked it better than American in Love (which I spent two years recording, for the record). I pretended not to be disappointed, thanked them & wondered whether Axl Rose & company were onto something in the fall of 1991.
SO: Monday, June 22nd, is the digital only release of Too Many Ghosts. That means it's on iTunes and elsewhere right this very minute! Everything was recorded live in the studio; guitar or piano and voice. Trish Hadley & Jonathan Jiskra engineered the sessions and helped lighten the mood.
It's a little scary to put this one out there. There's no hiding behind anything when it's just you. There are missed notes and there are mistakes, but there are no edits. It's hard for me to listen to it, but it's not for me and it feels right. I'm not saying there's a "Civil War" or an "Estranged" or even a "Don't Cry (Alternate Lyrics)" on here, but my sister likes it and that's gotta count for something. Also, I see it as Part II of whatever story was started on American in Love and I want to finish telling it.
You'll like this album if you like the mellow, acoustic stuff. There's a lot of mellow, acoustic stuff here. The next album is going to have to be Appetite for Destruction.
I hope you are having a great summer so far. Stay safe and well at home & out and about. Thank you for the continued support (more downloads than ever last month)! Please keep sharing the music and doing whatever it is you're doing to get the word out.
